Friends host annual golf tournament

6/25/2018

The 15th Annual Friends Foundation Golf Classic had near perfect weather conditions, although avid golfers will ask “When isn’t it a good time to hit the greens?” Just a couple of short-lived showers quickly blew through, but did not delay the tournament.

Tom Keim, Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital CEO, welcomed the near full slate of golfers to the foundation tournament.

“In the 12 years that I’ve been here it’s always great to see so many of our friends of the hospital,” said Keim. “As an independent hospital it’s really important for us to be connected to our community and your support helps our Friends Foundation purchase equipment that takes us to the next level of providing care in Ste. Genevieve. Thank you for everything you do for the hospital. “Have a great day out there—hit them long and hit them hard!”

That they did, with most teams turning in better than respectable scores.

Ste. Genevieve Vision Care, the winner of the tournament the past three outings, won the championship flight with a score of 57. Second and third place finishers with a scorecard playoff and a score of 58 were Bloomsdale Bank and Rottler and Huelskamp.

With a scorecard playoff, all A flight finishers had a score of 66. First, second and third place winners, respectively, were Murray Company, St. Francis Hospital and Cape Radiology Group.

B Flight winners were Southeast Health with a score of 69; and Capital Railroad and Cloudwave each with a score of 70.
Tom Keim greeted and treated each of the teams on hole 18 to some golf trivia and Oberle cheese and sausage.

At the end of the tournament congratulations were given to the winners of the men and women’s longest drive, won by Greg Ladd and Kaci Meyer. Winners of the closest to the pin were Shelley Moeckel and Greg Kamp.
Keim gave a special thank you to the many tournament sponsors: golf cart sponsors H & M Goldenberg II, Midwest Marketing, and Dr. Alan P. Lyss; lunch sponsor Loida Ag Service; dinner sponsors Lakenan Insurance and Dr. Craig Ruble; beverage sponsor Scimage; dessert sponsor Jim Francis; and game sponsor Horner & Shifrin.

The charity golf tournament is one of the signature events for The Friends of Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, which was established in the fall of 2003.
