Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) Auxiliary held another celebration January 29 in honor of its auxiliary’s recognition late last year as Auxiliary of the Year. This event was attended by U.S. Representative Jason Smith, Missouri State Representative Kevin Engler and Ste. Genevieve Mayor Dick Greminger.
“We did have a little celebration back in December, but we’re not opposed to having another one,” laughed SGCMH CEO Tom Keim. “We certainly are honored to have a great group of volunteers who volunteer day in and day out and give of their time and talents to make our hospital a better place for our patients to come and our staff to work.”
Representative Smith honored the auxiliary by making their achievement part of the congressional record which he read on the house floor.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here in December for your first celebration, but what you all have done here is phenomenal,” the Congressman said. “When we heard about it, I was very excited to do this congressional record on the house floor and to officially present it to you. We are blessed in our congressional district to have thousands of selfless individuals who give so much of their time. I can tell just by meeting you that you love what you’re doing. It’s a great honor.”
Rep. Kevin Engler, State House of Representatives, attended on behalf of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.
“I’m happy to present this proclamation from the governor,” said Representative Engler. “The main thing I want to talk about is the fact that you all are the heart and soul of this facility, and that’s what makes a community hospital. You make a huge difference. It’s nice that people see a friendly face, somebody they know. They see somebody they can trust and will be there for them. They know people care for them and about them here.”
Ste. Genevieve Mayor Dick Greminger also gave a few brief remarks.
“On behalf of the city, you ladies are certainly a testament to what this community is all about. I thank you very much for what you do.”
The Missouri Hospital Association award plaque, the Congressional Record, the governor’s proclamation and a photo gallery will soon hang on a wall opposite the information desk in the hospital front lobby.
“We have now started a wall to honor our auxiliary, and you’ll note that the banner on the lawn outside says 2015 Auxiliary of the Year, but that’s just the start, because you’re just that good,” Keim said with a big smile.
