Women's Health 5K Run/Walk
Mother Nature has a soft spot for women’s health and found it in her heart to provide a window of rain-free weather for Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital’s 5th Annual Art of Women’s Health 5K on Friday, April 28.
The event drew approximately 50 participants, down from previous years due, no doubt, to the threat of rain.
Shawn Long, SGCMH Friends Foundation Director, Dr. Theresa Cavins and Mary Crecelius, WHNP gave very brief welcoming remarks so the runners/walkers could get started and beat the next wave of rain.
Organizers say the event is held each year to celebrate women's health and to to convey that making even small changes like walking can make a big difference to your health.
“It’s so great to see how dedicated you all are to your health,” said Mary Crecelius. “I hope you all have fun.”
Dr. Cavins donated several door prizes, two Pink Plate Vegan cookbooks and a pet portrait.
“I took the photos and developed the recipes in the book to provide simple ways to add healthy and delicious plant-based food to your life,” she explained. “For me, living a vegan lifestyle is about compassion, not calories. But, the added benefits of feeling great and trying delicious, healthy recipes are amazing.”
Her other passions are dogs and painting. Her gallery, Life is Art, located at 109 North Main Street, is filled with portraits of her animals.
When participants finished the 5K they gathered at Dr. Cavins’ studio for wine, chocolate, and good, healthy conversation.
