SGCMH welcomes full-time cardiologist
BosnerSte. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is taking its cardiology services to the next level with the addition of Mathew Bosner, MD, cardiologist, who is also on staff at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.

Dr. Bosner considers education to be key to preventing many aspects of cardiovascular disease.

“I started my career at Washington University and focused on cardiac prevention from a research and clinical perspective,” he said. “Prevention is truly the best medicine. I have the pleasure of meeting with patients and their families to help define their individual cardiac risk profile and screen for reversible cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and other lipid issues that put patients at increased risk for cardiovascular disease such as heart attack and stroke.

“I am a strong advocate of education for the patient and their family to assess, evaluate and implement an individualized medical plan for a strong and healthy life. That’s why I consider myself a preventive cardiologist. I began at the laboratory bench and am delighted to now have the opportunity to treat patients with evidence based treatments that help us all live healthier and longer lives.”

Under Dr. Bosner’s leadership, an extensive integrated cardiovascular program is being developed at SGCMH.

“This is how I envision the future of health care delivery,” Bosner said. “We implement a holistic broad based approach evaluating patients as individuals, rather than isolated medical conditions. With input from the patient, their family, primary care provider, and ancillary members of the health care team, we develop individualized medical plans of action to treat active medical conditions and implement life style measures to decrease cardiovascular risk for future.

“I strongly believe in a team approach of working with patients and their familes. The team we are formulating here at SGCMH will work together to include the primary care physicians, nutritionist, cardiac rehab team and imaging team. We’ll take a group approach to work closely with each patient and family to develop a personal plan for your cardiac and overall medical health.”

Tom Keim explained that Dr. Bosner will expand the cardiology services at SGCMH that will be of significant benefit to the Ste. Genevieve community.

“We’re striving to bring the best providers to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial,” said Keim. “When physicians of Dr. Bosner’s caliber come to Ste. Genevieve on a full-time basis, it’s truly raising the bar in terms of healthcare.”

Dr. Bosner said he’s looking to blend many well-recognized evidence based methodologies through his medical practice at SGCMH. Bridging that with other necessary services on an individual basis will serve to help heighten cardiovascular disease awareness both in individual circumstances as well as the community at large.

Recognized by his peers as a “Top Doc” in St. Louis since 2007, Dr. Bosner earned his medical degree from the University of Texas-Houston. He completed his residency, internship and fellowship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, and was also on the faculty at Washington University School of Medicine.

“I began working in the basic science and research world, and while on faculty at Washington University, we developed and patented a method to measure cholesterol absorption from the intestine,” explained Bosner. “It was the first time a test was developed where we were able to patent and demonstrate the amount of intestinal cholesterol absorbed. This has resulted in an extensive amount of clinical research experience to learn how diet relates to cardiovascular diseases and recommend particular treatment options for patients based on their individual physiology, tailor made treatment plans. I’m very excited to bring this as well as other cutting-edge medical practices to Ste. Genevieve.”

Dr. Bosner plans to relocate to Ste. Genevieve in the near future.

“I’m delighted about being welcomed so warmly to the community. I look forward to being an active participant in the local medical society and Ste. Genevieve community as well.”

Dr. Bosner is an avid reader and a lover of the arts. He’s also acquired quite a wine collection and considers that a terrific hobby.

He has two grown sons. His older son is in the theatre-producing world and is working in New York with a Broadway production company. His younger son is a third year cadet at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and is interested in working in the military legal community.

Dr. Bosner’s practice will be located at the Pointe Basse Family Health Center and he can be reached by calling 573-883-1149.
