Some teams claimed a bogey or two;
others touted a birdie here and there, but every team participating in
the Friends of Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Charity Golf
Classic carted away 18 holes of fun.
The 4th annual Friends
Foundation tournament was held Friday, June 22 and gentle breezes and
periodic cloud cover made the 90-degree summer day bearable at the
beautiful Ste. Genevieve Golf Club.
Keith Johnson, Friends board
member and golf tournament chairman, welcomed participants and gave a
few ground rules for the event. He then introduced Tom Keim, hospital
CEO, who briefly addressed the crowd.
“I've been here just a short time,
but what a great organization we have in the Friends of Ste. Genevieve
County Memorial Hospital,” said Keim. “I want to thank them for
hosting this tournament. The money that we raise here today helps us
to move forward with many of our future plans to improve healthcare in
our county for the people we serve. So go out there and hit them
long, hit them straight and again, thank you.”
With that, the parade of golf
carts began and the 36 teams scurried to their designated holes to
begin the five-hour scramble.
Rental Service Company (RSC), with
a score of 62, took first place in the friendly competition. Team
member Kathy Kraemer says her organization looks forward to this event
each year.
“It's our pleasure to come here
and support the foundation’s hard work for a great organization like
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial,” she said. “RSC appreciates all the
business that we get from your wonderful community. We love coming
here. I have to take numbers because we have so many who want to come
and play.”
RSC, like many of the winning
teams, donated back their winnings to the Friends.
Rounding out the winners in the A-Flight, was the
second place team of Burrows/King System and the third place team of
Mid-America Rehab.
B-Flight winners were the teams of
Carestream Health, Inc., Citizens Electric, and BuiltBest A Team. C-Flight teams were
Alexander Open Systems, Michael Horrell and Associates, and Missouri
Baptist.
Following the tournament, a steak dinner was enjoyed by participants
and supporters. Lu Ann Miller, Director of Occupational Medicine at
the hospital, baked a multitude of tasty cheesecake desserts for everyone to
enjoy.
The charity golf tournament raises significant funds
for the foundation. This year’s tournament with a full slate of
golfers and sponsors raised an estimated $20,000.
The Friends of Ste. Genevieve
County Memorial Hospital was established in the fall of 2003. The
current members of the foundation are Anne Bonnell (president), Diane
Weber (vice-president), Keith Johnson (secretary/treasurer), Mike
Jaegers, Martha Schwent, June Weiler, Mary Ann McCullough, Terry
Rottler, and Debra Donze.
