VISITOR INFORMATION

Our hospital’s visitation policies have been established to provide the safest possible environment, while ensuring everyone’s experience is a positive one.

Visiting Policies
General visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Children are allowed to visit at the discretion of the nursing staff. Please check at the nurses’ station. Children visiting the hospital should be accompanied by an adult at all times. There is a visitors waiting area located near the lobby in addition to a waiting room near the surgery corridor. Visitors may be directed to the cafeteria if the waiting areas are crowded or if the patient is receiving care or treatment.

One Day Surgery
The surgery department is a busy area with limited space. For children who are having surgery, two adults may stay with the child prior to surgery and through recovery in the surgery unit. Family of adult surgery patients should wait in the surgery waiting room or may be asked to wait in the cafeteria if the waiting room is full.

Women’s Health and Childbirth Center
New mothers and babies are some of our hospital’s most popular guests. Each new mother determines her own visitor’s policy within the bounds of respect for other patients in the unit. Children are welcome to visit mom and baby if accompanied by an adult. All visitors should be in good health and should wash their hands before touching the newborn (see section on infection control). During labor and delivery, mom may have up to two support persons with her.

Wireless Internet Access
Wireless Internet connection is no longer just a perk of hotels and coffee shops. Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital offers patients and visitors complimentary wireless Internet access in the hospital. This allows patients and family members to use their personal laptop computers to stay in touch
with family members and friends during their stay. Ask at the nurses’ station, front desk, or see patient admission’s packet for complete information.

Patient Phone Calls
Patients may place outgoing calls 24 hours a day. To avoid interrupting their rest, incoming calls to patient rooms will be accepted between 7:00 a.m. and
10:00 p.m. as long as the patient is not receiving treatment.

Patient Confidentiality
We are committed to patient privacy and confidentiality. Our confidentiality policy permits patients to choose who receives details about their health condition. The patient lists to whom information may be given and this is strictly enforced.

Infection Control
Many patients have weakened immune systems that make them very susceptible to a variety of illnesses. People who are ill with a cold, fever, diarrhea, flu, or a communicable disease should not come into the hospital. In addition, children who have been exposed to chicken pox, measles, mumps, pinkeye, or rubella should not visit patients in the hospital.

We wish to protect all our patients, visitors, and staff from infections and communicable diseases. For this reason the staff follow precautions to prevent the spread of organisms (germs) from all patients, not just patients who have infections or communicable diseases. These precautions may include hand washing, the use of alcohol wash and special clothing such as gloves, gowns, etc. A sign on the patient’s door will notify visitors if they should speak with the attending nurse about special precautions before entering the room.

Cafeteria
Friends and family are welcome in the hospital cafeteria from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. seven days a week. Breakfast items are served until 10:00 a.m. Lunch and salad bar are available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Dinner is served from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The cafeteria is conveniently located on the lower level of the hospital.
For the convenience of visiting friends and neighbors, there are a variety of vending machines with snack items located on the lower level.

Smoking Policy
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Consistent with that aim, the hospital does not permit smoking on the grounds, inside the hospital or in buildings owned by the hospital.
