Dr. Lyss speaks at
lunch and learn

The Ste.
Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary sponsored a “Pink and White”
lunch and learn on Monday, May 5 as part of their year-long initiative to
promote breast cancer awareness.
Dr.
Alan Lyss, director of clinical research at Missouri Baptist Cancer Center
and medical director of the Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital’s Alan
P. Lyss Center for Cancer Care and Clinical Research, was the guest
speaker. Lyss emphasized the importance of mammograms, self-breast exams,
and the fact that clinical research is vital to reaching cancer cures and
treatment protocols.
Nearly 50 women from the community attended the luncheon, which was also
attended by Alena Islin, State President of the Missouri Association of
Hospital Auxiliaries. Islin spoke briefly about the SGCMH Auxiliary
contributions to the hospital and to the state-wide auxiliary Breast Cancer
Awareness project.
The
hospital cafeteria catered the lunch and pink carnations were donated by
Treasured Memories.
Proceeds from the luncheon are earmarked for breast cancer research as are
the proceeds from three pink and white quilts to be raffled off this fall.
Raffle tickets are available in the Auxiliary Gift Shop.
