Hospital receives
state’s highest scores in patient satisfaction

A new,
independent patient satisfaction survey released by the federal government
shows that Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital received the state’s
highest scores in five of ten key patient care categories, and scored above
the 90th percentile nationally in six of the ten areas.
The
survey by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and
Systems (HCAHPS) was developed at the request of the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services (CMS), and was made public March 28. Unlike previous
surveys which asked patients if they were satisfied with their care, the
HCAHPS survey concentrated on 10 different aspects of patient care
including:
-
Nurse
communication
-
Cleanliness of hospital
environment
-
Doctor communication
-
Quietness of hospital environment
-
Responsiveness of hospital staff
-
Overall rating of the hospital
-
Pain
control
-
Recommend the hospital
-
Communication about medicines
-
Discharge information
SGCMH
exceeded national and state averages in nine of the ten areas. The hospital
is proud of its scores, especially in the area of communication with
patients.
“Our
doctor communication rating of 93% far exceeded the national and state
average ratings of 80-percent,” said Tom Keim, hospital CEO. “Our physicians
and staff work together extremely well. They are a great team that goes
above and beyond to make our facility a great hospital”.
Likewise, the hospital’s scores on nurse communication and cleanliness of
hospital far exceeded the national and state averages.
"We
understand that as a rural community hospital we can’t provide all the
services of a large hospital, but the things we can provide we do very
well,” said Keim. “We provide compassionate and excellent care in a very
clean facility. We take the time to do the little things that mean a lot to
our patients when they are in our hospital.
“We
continuously measure patient perceptions of care on a set of quality
improvement measures. While we are very proud that our hospital received
exceptional ratings, improving patient care continues to be an on-going
process. The survey results will continue to help us evaluate the care we
provide and to ensure that we are addressing all of our patient care needs.”
The
hospital is also proud of the changes they have made to continue to
modernize their facility and to improve diagnostic capabilities and level of
care.
“We
have a great story to tell,” said Keim. “We are doing some great things in
our facility that truly are shaping the future of healthcare for our
community.”
