SGCMH Auxiliary History

What makes us special

One of the things that make the Auxiliary special is our history. In 1964, a small group of women were concerned about the lack of healthcare facilities in the Ste. Genevieve county area. Their efforts were an important contribution to the grass roots effort that yielded Ste. Genevieve County a hospital of its own by 1969.

In January 1969 with construction of the new hospital almost complete, the volunteer organization officially adopted a constitution and by-laws as well as the title, Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The first meeting as the new official organization was held on February 25, 1969, with 160 members present.

The Auxiliary members donated many hours to the hospital before it opened its doors, even helping to clean the rooms and corridors to prepare for the Open House. On March 16, 1969, proud Auxiliary members were present to show the community its new hospital.

That pride and commitment continues to sustain the hospital as the Auxiliary has remained a vital part of hospital life, contributing over $500,000 worth of equipment, furniture, educational materials and landscaping for the benefit of every department.

As the future brings growth and change to the hospital, the Auxiliary will remain a partner in their progress, committed to seeing Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital succeed and continue to serve the community.
