TRISCAN PAC:  three simple scans that may save your life.

WHAT IS A TRISCAN PAC SCREENING?

The TriSCAN PAC vascular screening is a set of three advanced ultrasound scans that detects plaque buildup in the peripheral arteries (arms and legs), the abdominal aorta and the carotid arteries. These three preventative health screenings are painless, quick and may save your life. The TriSCAN PAC is performed by a registered ultrasound technologist.

WHY GET SCREENED?

Early detection and proactive management of cardiovascular disease is a key part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The three types of vascular screenings include:

  • Peripheral Artery Disease screening

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) screening

  • Carotid Artery Disease screening

  • All three screenings together last approximately 45 minutes. Results are read by a board-certified cardiologist.

RISK FACTORS FOR VASCULAR DISEASE

You should consider a vascular screening if you have any of the following risk factors:

  • Age (50 years or older)

  • Smoking

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • Obesity

  • High cholesterol

  • Family history of stroke, abdominal aortic and vascular disease

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT VASCULAR DISEASE

Vascular disease is any condition that affects your circulatory system of blood vessels. This ranges from problems with your arteries, veins, and vessels that carry lymph to disorders that affect how your blood flows.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Significant plaque deposits which develop in the arteries in the neck (carotid), are a major cause of strokes. These deposits can be detected during a vascular screening.

The lining of the carotid artery (the major artery to the brain) thickens in response to aging, atherosclerosis or other factors. With Vascular Age Determination we measure the thickness of the carotid artery and can compare it to healthy individuals of the same age, gender and ethnicity to determine your vascular age.

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) occurs when plaque deposits block arteries in the legs. The condition can be painful when walking or at rest and also can cause wounds to heal poorly. Smokers, former smokers and diabetics are especially prone to PAD. PAD blockages can be detected during a vascular screening.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms occur when the major blood vessel (aorta) in the body expands and balloons outward. Rupture of the aneurysm may be prevented if the aneurysm is detected early through a vascular screening.
