Patients and their families can expect prompt attention and expert care with physicians and registered nurses staff specially trained in adult and pediatric emergency care including Pediatric Advanced Cardiorespiratory/Trauma Care, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and adult Advanced Life Support.
A physician dedicated to the Emergency Department is present 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
The medical director for the department is Bruce Harrison, a physician board certified in emergency medicine with 20 years experience in emergency medicine. Nurse Manager, Julie Kohm is a registered nurse certified in emergency medicine with over 25 years experience at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital.
The Emergency Department has access to Diagnostic Imaging including 64-Slice CT scan, and Laboratory services 24 hours a day to assist in diagnosing illness or injury, and determining appropriate treatment. General surgical and orthopedic services are available in the community.
Specialty services such as cardiology, neurology, and psychiatric services are available to patients through consulting specialists. A patient with an urgent illness requiring these higher-level, specialty services is stabilized in the local Emergency Department and a doctor-to-doctor consultation is performed. The patient is then transferred via ground or air ambulance to the appropriate advanced care facility under the care of the specialty physician.
Pediatric medical and orthopedic care is also readily available locally. Children with complicated medical problems or multiple traumas are stabilized and, following doctor-to-doctor consultation, are transferred to an advanced pediatric hospital. A transport team from the pediatric hospital is utilized to transport the child if needed.
The hospital’s Emergency Department has a direct phone-fax link to the Regional Poison Control Center. This allows the department staff immediate access to overdose and poisoning information. |
