SGCMH opens Ste. Genevieve Pharmacy

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital has opened a second retail pharmacy located on the main level of the Pine Drive Medical Centre. Ste. Genevieve Pharmacy will operate much like the Bloomsdale Pharmacy which opened close to eight years ago.

The Pine Street Medical Centre opened this past spring and Jill McCalister, retail pharmacy manager, said it was always in the plans to open a pharmacy at this location.

“There’s a lot of licensures that take place and additional set up, so it took a little longer to get up and running,” said McCalister. The coronavirus also led to a few delays, but now we’re excited to serve our hospital inpatients and community.”

McCalister said the Ste. Genevieve Pharmacy will soon implement the “Meds to Beds” program, which offers education about medication, and delivers prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to patients before they leave the hospital.

“This will be a great convenience to our discharged patients,” said McCalister. “With bedside delivery, patients leave with meds in hand. The Meds to Beds program is an opportunity for the pharmacy staff to answer patients’ questions and ensure they understand how to take their medications correctly.”

McCalister emphasized that the Ste. Genevieve Pharmacy is open to the general public, not just to recently discharged patients. She explained that it’s as easy as a phone call to the pharmacy to switch services from another pharmacy to the newly-opened Ste. Genevieve Pharmacy.

Currently, because of COVID-19, only the pharmacy ‘s drive thru service is open, as is the case with the Bloomsdale Pharmacy.

“When COVID tapers off, we’ll be able to open the walk in area,” McCalister said. “We’re adjacent to the Pine Street Medical Center physician offices lobby. This will make it very convenient for patients seeing their provider to step into our waiting area for their prescriptions.”

McCalister will be manager at both the Ste. Genevieve and Bloomsdale pharmacies.

“It will be exciting to be running both.,” she said. “We will be able to split the staff a little bit so you may see staff at both locations.”
