Our Philosophy
Dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease
Métis:

(PRONOUNCED “MA-TEE”) 1.People of mixed European and Native American descent. (like the founders of Ste Gen)
2. In Greek Mythology, the goddess of advice, wisdom, and good counsel. 3.The innermost satellite (moon) of the planet Jupiter.
The meaning of the word "Metis" is multifaceted. Multifaceted also describes our practice at Metis Breast Center.
Theresa Cavins, MD Surgery • Medical Director Breast Care Services and SGCMH Chief of Surgery
We are committed to providing the most advanced,
comprehensive breast care for all patients with breast health concerns.
This includes the
entire spectrum of breast care services, from
breast cancer prevention and
genetic counseling to
state of the art imaging and
minimally invasive breast biopsy techniques.
We offer
timely diagnosis of breast cancer, and work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals to provide treatment driven by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines.
The treatment of breast disease requires a team approach. That team includes the patient and the surgeon, the radiologist reading the mammogram, and many times, a radiation oncologist, a medical oncologist, and sometimes counseling professionals and plastic surgeons.
In addition to
progressive breast cancer care and support, we also offer a wide range of
cosmetic breast surgery options. This includes breast reduction surgery, breast augmentation, and breast reconstruction after mastectomy.
We feel privileged to participate in the care of patients in our community. We are dedicated to providing up to date, state of the art breast care. We hope that by achieving this goal, we can foster the healing process in each person we treat.
As a board certified general surgeon, with more than 20 years of experience, I also provide
general surgery services. Please see the general surgery tab below for details.
