Several hundred women—and a few men—attended the 2015 Women’s Health Fair at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital. This year’s theme was “A whole new you!—body, mind and soul,” and women discovered was to attain that from the many vendors and speaker presentations.
Speakers included Ketta Hill and Becky Baumann from Mid-America Rehab who talked about improving your flexibility; Dr. Matthew Bosner, Cardiologist gave some great information on heart disease and how reducing stress in your life can help to reduce your risk of heart disease; Dr. Joseph Sharlow gave an overview of the many services offered at Genesis Med Spa now located at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre; and the newest member of our women’s wellness staff, Dr. Breckenridge, OB/Gyn, who focused on the importance of screenings and women’s wellness checkups throughout life.
The fair drew about 350 participants.
“I think the threat of inclement weather for the afternoon kept some women from attending,” said Tina Poston, Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “Anytime there’s a mention of snow, people head to the grocery store and then back home. But those who did attend the fair seemed to enjoy themselves.”
Jennifer Schmidt shared this posting on Facebook. “You guys did an awesome job. My family had a blast there and got some valuable information. Thank you for putting on yet another spectacular event. I shared the wonderful water birthing room on my FB page. It is such a beautiful place to make some great memories.”
Visitors to the fair had health on their minds, taking advantage of the many health screenings available.
“The objective of our health screenings is to increase awareness about potential health problems,” said Poston, Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “Sometimes the best health care is preventive.”
The screenings offered free this year included blood pressure and pulmonary function tests (PFT) and dementia screenings. For a nominal $15 charge, women could have a blood sugar, total cholesterol and triglyceride screening. Poston said the health fair is as much about health as it is a social event.
“Women enjoyed browsing the many vendor tables and hospital booths. Chair yoga demonstrations by Debbie Ramer and massages added to the fun," said Poston. "Conversations are in no short supply. Many women remarked that they learned about new services SGCMH offers that they never knew about. This fair really gives us a chance to showcase our hospital."
Congratulations to Danna Schmidt (pictured with her daughter) who was the big winner of the day and took home the gas bar-b-q grill courtesy of County-Do-It Center in Ste. Genevieve and Bloomsdale. Jessica Bollinger won this gift basket in a random drawing of participants who attended Dr. Breckenridge’s presentation.
Winners in our Makeover Madness Contest, sponsored by SGCMH Women’s Wellness Services, Lakenan Insurance/Progressive and Kathy’s Pour les Femmes, were Jessica Wehner and Jean Peery. Our “Under Construction” winner of an Amazon Fire was Ashley Palmer.

Poston also gave a special thank you to PureSonic Productions for providing the photo booth equipment so fairgoers could have a nice keepsake.

“We’d like to give a huge thank you to our vendors who supplied dozens of door prizes and giveaways that make it so much fun for our fairgoers,” Poston said. “It wouldn’t be a fair without them.
