Fantastic weather greets AWH 5K participants

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) hosted its 4th annual Art of Women’s Health 5K Run/Walk on April 22. With stellar weather, just over 100 participated in the event to bring awareness to women’s health and encourage women to take initiatives to better their health—like nutrition and exercise.
Shawn Long, Director of the Friends Foundation, welcomed participants and gave away door prizes, including Cardinals tickets and a pet portrait donated by Dr. Theresa Cavins.
Mary Crecelius, SGCMH women’s health nurse practitioner, greeted the crowd and saluted women for taking healthy initiatives like walking.
“Today is Earth Day, so as we take care of Mother Earth, let’s take care of the health of all of our moms, daughters, and sisters.”
Dr. Theresa Cavins, SGCMH breast and general surgeon, was equally excited to see the great turnout, and relayed a recent patient story.
“I just talked to a patient who had recently had an episode of anaphylactic shock,” she explained. “If our hospital wasn’t here, it’s doubtful she would have made it to another facility. I think we can all be thankful and proud that Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is a part of this community.”
