Foundation hosts second tournament of the season at Castle Ridge

The Friends Foundation at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) held its second golf tournament of the season Saturday, October 1 at the Castle Ridge Golf Course in Festus. Golfers loved the cool weather as much as they did the course.
Union Pacific (UP), who owns and operates the course, opens the venue to non-profit organizations only a few times a year, so SGCMH was fortunate to have been chosen for this honor for the second year in a row.
Vickie Winkler, Friends Foundation President, gave a brief welcome to participants before handing the mike over to SGCMH CEO, Tom Keim.
“I’d like to give a shout out to Rod Scherer who has been on our Board of Trustees for over 30 years and has contributed greatly to the success of our hospital,” said Keim. “To be a strong independent hospital it takes the help of our friends. We thank you for being here and supporting the hospital.”
Shawn Long, Foundation Director, thanked Bank of Bloomsdale, Dicom and Midwest Marketing for sponsoring portions of the tournament. Jeckyl G’s provided the barbecue lunch.
Ste. Gen Vision was the winner for the second year in a row at this Castle Ridge tournament with a score of 58. Team Keim and Austin Powder came in second and third place respectively by scorecard playoff and a score of 61.
B flight winners were all determined by a scorecard playoff and each walked away with a score of 63. First, second and third place winners were Barley Chevrolet, Team Huelskamp and Horrell/Francis.
In C flight, Bloomsdale Bank came in first with a score of 67; Rollet Brothers came in second with a score of 69; and Alexander Open Systems finished third with a 71.
Rob Walsh won the closest to the pin contest, and Tanner Wolk and Rachel Keim took home the longest drive in the men and women’s division. Rob Walsh was also the winner of the 50-50 drawing, but graciously donated his winnings back to the foundation.
The charity golf tournament is the signature event for The Friends of Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, which was established in the fall of 2003. Board members are Vickie Winkler, president, Bruce Giesler, vice-president, Mike Horrell, secretary/treasurer, Craig Ruble, MD, Jim Francis, Mary Odneal, Theresa Cavins, MD, Rob Walsh, MBA, MS, PhD, CRNA, Rob Walsh and Bob Palmer.
The foundation’s next big event is the Black Tie Gala on November 5, 2016. The theme for this year’s event is the Great Gatsby. For ticket information contact the Friends Foundation at 573-883-7725.
