Hospital plans food, wine and beer tasting event

Enjoy an evening savoring delectable tastings and beverages from some of Ste. Genevieve and the surrounding area’s premium restaurants, eateries, breweries and wineries at the Taste of Ste. Genevieve County, Saturday, April 2 from 6-10 p.m. at the Ste. Genevieve Community Center.
The event, hosted by The Friends Foundation at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH), will benefit the hospital’s Women’s Health and Childbirth Department.
“We were looking for a way to get community involvement and try a little bit different fundraising event in a fun environment for people to come and showcase all the things that we have in and around Ste. Genevieve,” said Dr. Angela Breckenridge, OB/Gyn. “We’re proud of our many restaurants and wineries, and how great is it to have them all together in one venue for people to sample their offerings. It’s a great fundraising opportunity.”
The tasting event is probably the first for Ste. Genevieve, but Dr. Breckenridge, who brought the idea to the Friends Foundation, has been involved in similar events for some time.
“I’ve done these as fundraisers in other hospital systems where I’ve worked and they have been very well received,” she said. “People love to come because they can try a little bit from all of our vendors in one location and then pick out some places they’d like to visit in the future. It’s a win-win for everyone, and the vendors love to bring their signature items. It’s a fun event.”
The Taste of Ste. Genevieve County will also feature silent and oral auctions.
“This is a fundraising event, so we have a variety of items for every bidder’s comfort level,” she said. “Some people are just more interested in the experience of the food and beverage tasting, while other people really like to partake in the auctions. Our live auction will have a bit bigger items, but the silent auction has something for everyone in every price range. We really try to have a variety of items to make the event a success to help get what we need for our babies and women’s services here at the hospital.”
In addition to the auction, the event will have a “liquor pull.”
“This is one of the most fun parts of the whole experience,” said Breckenridge. “We’ll sell corks with numbers on them that correlate to a special bottle of wine or liquor—you never know what you’re going to get!”
The event has five major sponsors: Kohlfeld Distributing, Bluff City Beer Company, J98 Radio, 573 Magazine and the Ste. Genevieve Herald.
The central monitoring system on Breckenridge’s wish list for the SGCMH OB Department will allow providers and staff to see what’s going on and have eyes on mom and baby in labor at all times regardless of where the provider is.
Tickets for the Taste of Ste. Genevieve County are $30 each or 2/$50 and are available online. For more information, call Shawn Long, Friends Foundation Director at 573-883-7725.
