SGCMH is proud to welcome new nurse practitioner to BFHC
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital welcomes Annie Wolk, FNP-C, APRN, as its newest provider at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre.
From the time she started making career choices, Annie said she always wanted to be a nurse practitioner.
“I like to keep people healthy,” she said. “As a nurse, I always saw people on the other end of health. I like prevention and primary care.”
Annie attended the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College in St. Louis and received her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner through Graceland University in Independence, MO.
Annie was a staff nurse at Barnes Jewish and most recently a nurse practitioner at St. Luke’s Urgent Care Center in Kirkwood, MO.
As a nurse practitioner, Annie sees patients from newborn to seniors.
“I love kids, I love geriatrics, I love it all,” she said.
Annie, originally from the St. Louis area, may be new to the Bloomsdale Medical Centre, but she’s certainly not new to Ste. Genevieve, and has some very strong family ties here.
“My in laws are Ken and Suzie Wolk of Weingarten, and my husband is Nathan Wolk,” Annie explained. “Nathan is program director of Air Evac.”
Annie and Nathan have three children, ages 1, 4 and 6, who were Annie’s constant study companions when she was pursuing her BSN and her Nurse Practitioner certification.
“I started when my oldest was one, I had my second about a year into school, and my one-year-old was my reward for graduating,” she said. “It was difficult, but we made it.”
She said it’s great not to have such a long commute to work.
“I’ve always been on the road, so it’s really nice to work close to home and serve this community,” Annie said.
She’s had a few weeks to get her feet wet at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre and likes what she sees.
“I love it!” she said. “Everyone’s been so kind and helpful. I really enjoy it and I see a lot of familiar faces.”
Annie says being a nurse practitioner is very rewarding.
“I definitely like getting to the root of the problem,” she said. I love helping people, caring for families and making someone’s day a little brighter.”
Annie sees patients, part time for now, at Bloomsdale Family Health Care. For appointments, call 573-483-9492.
