Valle students participate in Healthcare Discovery Day

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital hosted Valle High School for a day of healthcare discovery. The event introduced the students to career opportunities in healthcare.
“It’s nice to bring the students to the hospital so they can see healthcare in action,” said Tiffany Merriman RN, BSN Clinical Educator. “The students are very enthusiastic and we hope that by seeing what our medical professionals do on a daily basis they will be encouraged to pursue a career in healthcare in the future.”
Students spent time job shadowing health care workers in the five areas they were most interested. Sixteen students attended the event and 13 hospital departments participated. Students shadowed professionals in a variety of departments including Therapy, Nursing, Social Work and Diagnostic Imaging. The event was an exciting, hands-on experience for students to see what a healthcare professional does.
The event elicited a lot of positive feedback.
