SGCMH Health Screenings and Programs

SGCMH is always working to improve the health of the community with prevention programs that can lower your risk, and screenings to find health problems before they grow serious. Getting screening tests is one of the most important things you can do for your health.

Screenings are medical tests that check for diseases before you have symptoms. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they're easier to treat. You can get some screenings in your doctor's office. Others need special equipment, so you may need to go to a different office or the hospital. Talk with your provider about which screenings are right for you.

Depending on your age, sex, family history and whether you have risk factors for certain diseases you may need to be screened for:

• Certain types of cancer including lung, prostate and colorectal
• High blood pressure or high cholesterol
• Diabetes
• Osteoporosis (weak bones)

SGCMH offers a variety of screenings. Some are offered regularly and others are offered at different times throughout the year. Check our list of available screenings below.

Thanks to the new healthcare law, Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance plans are now required to cover a wide range of preventive care services you can schedule at SGCMH. For more information about the therapies and screenings covered under the law, visit www.medicare.gov.

After a screening test, ask when you will get the results and whom to talk to about them.
