SGCMH to Offer Sports Physicals

4/25/2023

Ste. Genevieve, MO - To prepare for summer sports and the fall school year, now is the time for parents to schedule their children for sport physicals. Sports physicals are important if your child is considering even casually playing sports. The sports physical helps to determine if it is safe for your child to participate in sports. It can help identify and address health problems that might interfere with playing sports.

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) is providing sports physicals in their pediatric and family health care clinics. They are available in three locations: Apple Kids Pediatrics, Bloomsdale Family Health Care and Family Health Care Pointe Basse. Call your preferred office to schedule an appointment or request an appointment through the SGCMH Patient Portal. If physicals are scheduled between May 30 and June 9, $15 of the cost will be donated back to the student’s school.

Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and bring the signed (by parent or guardian) MSHAA physical form, which can be downloaded from their schools’ website.

A routine examination during a sports physical includes an assessment of vital signs, vision and hearing screenings and possibly a review of your child’s medical history. Providers also look for joint and muscle problems.

Bhargav Kanani, MD, FAAP; Shilpa Desai, MD, FAAP; Gail Craft, RN, CS, FNP will be performing physicals at Apple Kids Pediatrics, 590 Pine Drive, 573-883-4455. Kelli Brockman, MD, Jonathon Bird, MD, Rikki Schaefer, PA-C and Elle Grither, FNP-BC will provide sports physicals at Bloomsdale Family Health Care at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre, 255 Boderman Lane, 573-483-9492. Additionally, this year Dan Frissell, MD and Deniane John, MD are accepting students for sports physicals at the Pointe Basse location, 753 Pointe Basse Drive, 573-883-2782.

“Our providers perform sports physicals to help keep students healthy and make sure they’ll be able to enjoy playing the sports they love,” said Tina Poston, Director of Marketing & Community Relations.

Sports physicals are usually good for one year. If there are any changes in your child’s health history, contact their provider.
